Can Ch DenBoer Magic of LadySlipper

July 5, 1998 – July 5, 2005

Sire: Ch Geronimo’s Schmoo CD (Schmoo)
Dam: Ch DenBoers Elfin Magic (Elfin)

Can Ch DenBoer Magic of LadySlipper was our second show dog and Tammy’s constant companion. As our pack grew, Magic took on the role of deputy and enforcer to pack leader Tammy. Magic invented games and it was our job to try to figure out the game and the rules. Her favorite Geof game was a bedtime ritual and her favorite Karen game was adding a spin or other flourish in the show ring. We played at obedience classes, where she always had the fastest recall and invented her own novelty moves after demonstrating that she had mastered the standard exercises.

There were many events that could only be explained with, “She’s Magic,” as the neighbor kids said when asked how Magic got over a six-foot privacy fence to play with them. Years later she repeated that trick to follow her much larger visiting playmate. We’re convinced that she was protecting him and guided him back to our front gate. Magic was known to climb trees, or at least jump to the lowest branches, to chase squirrels that violated her yard. When she wanted something that was placed too high for her to jump to, Magic solved the problem using an indirect route. Geof once caught her on top of an armoir, with brightly colored foam emerging from her mouth. The lure of Sweet Tarts placed "out of reach" had sparked Magic's creativity to achieve her goal.
